Who We Are...
We (Josef and Lina Urban) are sinners saved by sovereign grace who have nothing to boast about before the exalted risen Lord who emptied His veins of blood and poured out His soul unto death to redeem unworthy worms like us. Solely by His grace, we are church planting missionaries located in Guadajalara, Jalisco, Mexico. Josef is originally from Ohio and Lina from California, and apart from each other we were both saved in early 2004, and upon getting married in March 2007 we moved to Mexico in October 2007 to preach the Gospel and have been in Mexico ever since. We've spent time ministering in Tijuana B.C., Tierra Caliente Guerrero, and have been in Guadalajara since January 2009. Though it was not our initial plan to stay in Guadalajara, upon seeing the hand of God upon our ministry in this city, we've been constrained to stay.
We have been laboring to plant a church since July 2010 and thanks be to God that He has had mercy on us and established a local congregation that now meets several times per week to observe the means of grace, hear the expository teaching of God's Word, sing hymns, exhort one another, pray together, and fellowship. Josef currently oversees the local church and preaches (in Spanish) a couple of times per week. His sermons can be downloaded online here. It is our earnest prayer that God will be pleased to raise up other men to labor in preaching and teaching God's Word and local elders who will oversee (under Christ) the flock of God which He purchased with His own blood. Please join us in praying that the Lord would save souls and raise up more laborers. Our goal is not just a single church, but to establish an "Antioch" in Mexico that would serve as a training base for raising up preachers of sound doctrine to send them forth into the white harvest fields of Mexico to plant more churches. We are convinced that church planting is the primary task of missions and are laboring in the hope that Christ will establish His lampstands in many places around the nation.
Thanks to the Lord, we have seen several men raised up to proclaim Christ on the streets and to evangelize on a consistent basis. Our burning desire is that Christ's name would be made famous among the common people of Mexico, and this cannot be done apart from street evangelism to the common folk. Therefore, we are also engaged in evangelism, open air preaching, tract design and distribution, Bible distribution and more for the sake of making the saving truth of the cross of Christ known in Guadalajara and beyond. Training the Body of Christ in the work of evangelism is also one aspect in which God has been pleased to allow us to labor and see fruit to the glory of His name.
By God's leading and provision, we've also established a children's home in Guadalajara in an attempt to fulfill the biblical mandate to care for orphans and to let the children come to Jesus. Pictured above is 4 of our kids who were abandoned children. Your prayers are greatly desired for the sake of these children.
